Atlantic Coast Conference players of the year include Art Heyman (1963), Jeff Mullins (1964), Steve Vacendak (1966), Mike Gminski (1979), Danny Ferry (1988, 1989), Christian Laettner (1992), Grant Hill (1994), Elton Brand (1999), Shane Battier (2001), and J.J. Redick (2005, 2006). Atlantic Coast Conference Rookies of the year are Jim Spanarkel (1976), Mike Gminski (1977), Gene Banks (1978), and Chris Duhon (2001).

The previous coaches who worked with the team for at least 5 years are: Wilbur Wade Card (1906-1912) , the first coach of the team; Eddie Cameron (1929-1942), his name was given to the Cameron Indoor Stadium, the venue for the team; Gerry Gerald (1943-1950); Harold Bradley (1951-1959); Vic Bubas (1960-1969) , who helped the team in getting two Final Fours and a runner-up award; Bill Foster (1975-1980), who advanced the basketball team to the National Championship game and an Elite Eight.
