The LSU Tigers basketball team has been around since the early 1900s, creating a long history of pride and tradition. It was in 1935 that the Tigers won the “mythical national championship.” The “mythical national championship” is colloquial terminology used to describe champions in a sport where no playoff or tournament is held. Therefore, the NCAA commission does not officially recognize the championship. LSU, however, takes great pride in their success and displays a banner recognizing this feat in their Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Since this disputed championship, the purple and yellow Tigers have been unable to officially claim a national championship through competition in the NCAA Final Four Tournament. They have, however, garnered nearly twenty tournament appearances, and numerous appearances in the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and Final Four categories. In addition to these great team performances, LSU has produced many legendary NBA players such as Pete Maravich, Bob Pettit, and Shaquille O’Neal. This year, Coach Trent Johnson and his returning veterans wish to officially inscribe their name in the NCAA Tournament history books. They need to look past last year’s disappointing 13-18 record and failure to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, however. Competition may prove tough against conference rivals Mississippi State, Arkansas, and Ole Miss Running Rebels. So break out your purple and yellow clothing and purchase cheap LSU Tigers basketball tickets to give them the “sixth-man” edge.
