For the first time in school history, the No. 19 New Mexico Lobos are 3-0 in the Mountain West Conference for the first time in school history, and right now they certainly stand as the team to beat. Coach Steve Alford has the team playing arguably their best basketball ever, and if they can keep up the pace they will not only continue to climb in the rankings, they will find themselves with a very high seed come tournament time in March. Already on the year the Lobos have taken out the then-ranked # 21 UCONN Huskies, #8 Cincinnati Bearcats, and #24 UNLV Rebels. The guard combination of Hugh Greenwood and Tony Snell has been priceless through the season, as both men have shown exemplary leadership on the court and have helped the Lobos stay poised and play aggressively until the buzzer rings.
But it doesn't get any easier for New Mexico in their remaining matchups, especially considering the quality of basketball coming out of the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos will take on the Colorado State Buffaloes, who are 14-3, on Wednesday, and January 26th will be a big day for the team as they travel to take on the 15th-ranked San Diego State Aztecs. The Lobos also still have tough matchups afterwards as well, including games against Wyoming (1/30), UNLV (2/9), and Boise State (2/16) before the season is over. Make sure to get your New Mexico Lobos men’s basketball tickets today and put on your cherry red, white, and sliver to see them battle inside the Pit.
