North Carolina State Wolfack Background

The symbol of the North Caroline State Wolfpack is often called the original "Strutting Wolf". A NC State art student created his design for it. Actually, the first NC State athletics logo represents a red block 'S' with the letters N and C that were enscribed. The block S was first used in 1890, however, many alterations have taken place since that year. In 2000 it was the logo for all athletic teams of the NC State and in 2006 it was transformed to its current design.The athletic teams of the NC State are called the 'Wolfpack'. As far as the womens teams is concerned, they are usually called the 'Lady Wolfpack'. This name fisrt appeared in 1922. The previous names of NC State athletic teams were the Techs, the Aggies, and the Red Terrors. Mr. and Ms. Wuf, being the mascots of the team, have been the symbols of the North Caroline State Wolfpack at a number of athletic events since the 60s. The name of the 'Strutting Wolf' is also known by 'Tuffie'.
