Notre Dame Basketball Information

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball teams are playing at the Joyce Center. The facility was opened in 1968. The Fighting Irish have won 77 per cent of all their games played in the arena. The 1973-74 and 1985-86 seasons the basketball team finished with 15-0 records. In 1973-74 the team won 24 games consecutively. From 1998 to 2002 they became the winners in 51 games consecutively. That was a new universitys record and the tenth in the NCAA history.

The Joyce Center was also used for the NCAA (the National Collegiate Athletics Association) mens competitions (in 1971, 1976, 1985, and 1988). The mens basketball team appeared in the NCAA Tournament 27 times, as well as in the Final Four in 1978. The womens basketball team is also quite successful, as the girls have made numerous tournament appearances. In 2001 the Notre Dame Fighting Irish womens basketball team became the winner of the National Championship. The team is quite successful up to now, and gathers huge crowds of fans each season.
