The No.15 San Diego State Aztecs lost their third game of the season against UNLV on Wednesday night, but Coach Steve Fisher knows his squad has plenty of firepower to come back stronger than ever, and much of that confidence has to do with his 6’5” junior guard, Jamaal Franklin, who was recently named as a 2012-2013 Wooden Award finalist. The award is given out each year the most outstanding player in the country, and Franklin is definitely one of them. He’s been a double-double machine all year, with seven to date, and he sits in the top 20 in the nation on rebounding (10 rpg), and the top 40 scoring (18 ppg). Even in the recent loss, Franklin dropped 27 points, and his outstanding play has many in Aztec Nation believing the California product can take the team deep come March Madness.
San Diego State has earned a share of the Mountain West Conference title in each of the past two years, and in order to keep this year’s hopes alive and stay in the Top 25, the Aztecs (14-3, 2-1) will need to bounce back on Saturday night against a very tough Wyoming squad. But that’s not the end of their tough games, as they’ll have to face No. 19 New Mexico (1/26), travel to play UNLV (2/16), and battle against Colorado State on the road (2/13).
