The South Florida Bulls (or the Bulls for short) are the athletics teams of the University of South Florida (the USF). It is a public university, which is situated in Tampa, Florida State. It is the 3rd biggest Florida University. It was established in 1956. The current president is Judy Genshaft. The USF sponsor is the ERT (the EPSN Regional Television). The major university colors are gold and green, and the mascot is Rocky the Bull.
All university teams are the participants of the NCAA (the National Collegiate Athletics Association) Division I A.
Recently, in 2005, the South Florida State University became the member of the Big East Conference. Previously, it was the member of the Conference USA, the Metro Conference, and the Sun Belt Conference.
The South Florida Bulls include different sports teams in football, basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field. There are also womens teams in softball, sailing, and volleyball.
The South Florida Bulls are currently playing at the Sun Dome. It is a sports and entertainment facility, used for many various purposes. It is situated on the campus of the University of South Florida. It is also the home to the mens and womens university volleyball teams. The facility was opened in 1977. The seating capacity exceeds ten thousand spectators. The stadium hosts more than three hundred different events annually. Those are concerts, various shows, religious services, conventions, rodeos, a wide range of festivals, wrestling, boxing, bull riding and gymnastics tournaments, lectures, political debates, and many more. Several world famous performers held their concerts at the Sun Dome, for instance, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Britney Spears, and others.
In 2000 the roof was changed, and large video screens were added in 2005, before the new season of the South Florida basketball team. They were placed in all four corners of the playground for the new inaugural season of the Big East. A new playing surface was also installed. It is called the Quick Lock Portable Floor. It is made of a special type of hard maple. The University of South Florida logo and the Big East logos will be placed on its surface. New lighting and audio systems were installed as well. The restrooms, the dressing rooms, the locker rooms and the office space were also renovated.
The Sun Dome sports facility is owned by the Sun Dome Incorporation, which is a not-for-profit one. The stadium also hosts the NIT (the National Invitation Tournament) games and the NCAA games.
The current head coach is Robert McCullum, there are also three assistant coaches: Frank Burnel, Charles Cunningham, and Greg Gary. The Director of Basketball operations is Reggie Kohn. Among the notable universitys alumni there is a professional basketball player Chucky Atkins.
