Mountaineers Basketball
The West Virginia Mountaineers basketball team is one of the athletic teams of West Virginia University (WVU), which is an institution of higher education situated in Morgantown, West Virginia. The off-the-site campuses of the school are based in Parkersburg, Montgomery, Keyser and Charleston, West Virginia. WVU was founded in 1867 and was a land-grant university. Originally it was named the Agricultural College of West Virginia. The name of the school changed in 1868. The university specializes in 171 various majors in 13 different colleges, and its famous for its 25 Rhodes Scholars. The was also successful in raising 16 Truman Scholars, 29 Goldwater Scholars, five members of USA Today's All-USA College Academic First Team, and two Udall Scholarship winners. West Virginia University is a current member of National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I and the Big East Conference. The University's mascot is a Mountaineer. The other major kind of sports besides basketball at the university is football, although some other sports also enjoy great popularity.
