Mountaineers Basketball

The mens and womens basketball teams play their home games at WVU Coliseum. The current head coach of the mens team is John Beilein. The team was most successful in 1959, having achieved 29 victories that year, and having taken part in the basketball championship final matches, the 1959 NCAA final. The other final match, in which the team was successful, was the 1942 NIT final. At the time, the Mountaineers defeated the Western Kentucky basketball team with the score of 47-45. It should be noted, that at that time, the NIT was considered a much more prestigious competition than the NCAA.
