Buffalo Bulls Background Ticket Information

UBs home Stadium for playing football and exercising track and field events is the University at Buffalo Stadium. It was opened in 1993 for the World University Games and the basketball, wrestling and volleyball events at Alumni Arena. The other venues used for sports include the Alumni Arena Natatorium, the Recreation and Athletic Complex, the University Tennis Center, Nan Harvey Field, Amherst Audubon Field.

One can recollect one prominent incident during a UB football game which was broadcast by ABC. This was the so-called game against Holy Cross on October 31, 1970. A march was planned in Niagara Square on that day with later heading to Rotary Field for the game of UB for more protesting. The protestors wanted to be seen and heard all across the United States. The game was to showcase a halftime show while featuring the UB Pride of the East marching band. This performance was planned as an entrance to a national band competition that is why the band was ready to perform well. The first half of the game went without goals, because many waited for the halftime show. Still, the only people to have seen the performance were the spectators and the TV censors. ABC decided not to broadcast the marching bands performance and showed traffic on Main Street and Bailey Avenue instead.

The modern era of football began for the Bulls as a Division III program in 1977. Since the beginning of it the team has had six different coaches. The 1st one of them was Bill Dando, followed by Sam Sanders and James Ward. In 1993 the Buffalo Bulls improved their performance up to a Division I-AA under Coach Ward. The next coach was Craig Cirbus. He returned to his University for the 1995 season, having worked for a long time as an assistant to the notable Coach Joe Paterno. In 1999 the team moved to the Division I-A. Cirbus was replaced by Jim Hofher and later by the well-known Nebraska quarterback Turner Gill for the 2006 season.

The University at Buffalo is also noted for its soccer team. In 2005, the men's soccer team achieved the greatest results. The UB made up a 14-3-2 record, having closed the season with eight victories. The Bulls went to the Mid-American Conference competition where they were hit by the Akron Zips team.
