Atlanta , GA |
The Peach Bowl is a shortened name of the Chik-fil-A Peach Bowl. It is held every year in Atlanta, Georgia. The first match was played in 1968. Originally the Grand Field stadium was used. In 1971, the Bowl moved to the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, which was used during 20 years. In 1991 the teams, which participate in the Peach Bowl use the Georgia Dome.
Since 1993 in the Peach Bowl a Southeastern conference team and a team from the ACC (the Atlantic Coast Conference) take part.
The original purpose of the game was to raise some money for the Lions Clubs in Georgia, but the idea failed, as the bowl didnt become very attractive to the fans. Thus, it was taken over by the Chamber of Commerce. They launched a new chain of restaurants called Chik-fil-A, which became the main sponsor of the Peach Bowl (since 1997). In 2006 the Chik-fil-A assumed the naming rights to the bowl, signing a twenty-two million contract. Thus in April it was completely renamed from the Peach Bowl into the Chik-fil-A Bowl.
