After winning just their second bowl game in school history and first since 1949, the Northwestern Wildcats are looking to take the next step: contending for a national title. The Cats’ historic season has fans in Evanston ecstatic about the upcoming 2013 slate, especially since the team is returning 15 starters from an impressive 10-win squad. Those with Northwestern football tickets this season will have the pleasure of again watching the Wildcats’ versatile do-it-all threat, Kain Colter, for his senior season. Last year, Colter put up outstanding numbers across the board, with nearly 900 yards and eight touchdowns passing and just under 900 yards and 12 touchdowns rushing, while also adding 16 receptions and 169 receiving yards for good measure. Colter’s running mate, Venric Mark, will also return to help last year’s 19^th ranked rushing offense dominate on the ground again. Mark was one of the most productive backs in the Big Ten last year, tallying 1,366 yards and 12 touchdowns in Northwestern’s up-tempo system.

Now that Pat Fitzgerald’s team has a bowl victory under its belt, it will turn its attention to the Big Ten and BCS crowns. With a host of talent returning to guide the team through a challenging 2013 Northwestern football schedule, the Cats looked poised to become serious contenders in the BCS race this season.
