Heavy rains in the Houston area plagued the opening of the 2008 NCAA football season for the Rice Owls. They have since found themselves in the heat of their spring practices and gaining momentum with each subsequent practice. Head coach David Bailiff has taken on Ronnie Lillard for the 2009 football season, who attended the United States Air Force Academy Prep Shool over the past year. He was a Lehigh High School graduate that had found himself gaining recognition as All-County, All-District and even All-Southwest Florida. As a member of the All Star Team for Southwest Florida, he has an outstanding number of sacks and tackles on his resume, and the Owls were definitely hiring.

Lillard is also an academic force, with a 3.5GPA and an impressive history of academic awards. Rice is the second smallest college in the NCAA Division I competitions. Bailiff has found this season’s practices to be more productive than those of the 2007 training season and he is looking to the 2008 and 2009 season to bring great things.
