2009 West Virginia Mountaineers Season Information

The Mountaineers really performed in the 2007-2008 season, starting game play on September 1, 2007, and finishing with an impressive 11-2 record for the season. Though they were taken down by Pitt in the 100th Backyard Brawl on December 1st, they dominated in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on January 2nd, 2008. The Mountaineers left the Sooners wondering where that steam train came from that just ran through them, and realizing it was just Noel Devine with a 65-yard touchdown blowing by to seal their fate in the last six minutes under a new head coach. Rich Rodriguez left the team to join the Michigan Wolverines on December 16, 2007, leaving Assistant Head Coach Bill Stewart to serve as interim head coach.

Bill has made some changes to the coaching staff and is comfortable with his new role in the Mountaineers coaching team as 32nd head coach for West Virginia. The 2008-2009 NCAA football season will be an exciting one, and time will tell us if we agree that he was ready for the task. For 2009 they have the advantage of playing seven of their games at home.
