The news on Atlanta Falcons in 2007

The American football team Atlanta Falcons ended the 2006 season with the score 7-9. The most outstanding events of the season were the inconsistent offense and several injuries on defense. As for now, the Falcons have completely revised the coaching staff. The coach Bobby Petrino is from Louisville, he is famous for a power running game and a spread offense. Hue Jackson has taken the place of the Offensive Coordinator; he used to work as a receivers coach in Cincinnati. Mike Zimmer became a Defensive Coordinator last year.

The Falcons have a new quarterback Michael Vick in 2007. Vick has been doing his best in the off-season practice with new coach Petrino; however, it is still unclear, whether he will have a chance to lead the team this season. The current backups are Joey Harrington and Georgia native D.J. Shockley. Harrington played for Detroit and Miami in the past five years, at some times as a backup as well. D.J. Shockley played well in preseason.

Running Back Warrick Dunn is in the team again this year. The last season showed that Warrick was capable of producing good results, however, he it is obvious he lost some of the breakaway speed. This season he will most probably be splitting carries with second-year student Jerius Norwood. Norwood averaged over 6 yards a carry last season and has very fast legs; but he still needs to carry 20+ times a game in the NFL. The third one will be Jamal Robertson.

Ovie Mughelli is a fullback this year, and he is also a prized free agent pickup in 2007. He is young, powerful, and capable of gaining that yard or two in short yardage situations. He will have to play instead of Justin Griffith after he departs.
