Carolina Panthers - 2007 season excitement

In 2006, the Carolina Panthers fans hoped the team would get another trip to the Super Bowl after the successful 2005 season. The team did not have a lot of bad breaks. In fact, they lost the running backs and couldn’t find an apt second receiver beyond Steve Smith. Still, the team was prepared to go for another Super Bowl run.

The fans were disappointed by the play of the team in the previous season. There was a continuous streak of blown 4th-quarter leads, a constant inability to convert on 3rd down, and a number of play calls, which could have been predicted even by the spectators at the stadium. The team should have tackled Chris Cooley and prevented the touchdown versus Washington. They also could have stopped the Bengals from converting the 35-yard bomb on 4th-and-1. If the Carolina Panthers hadn't called the exact same sideline route that worked before on that last play versus the Eagles, the team might have had a game or two in January.

Even if the Panthers had received a playoff berth, it would probably not change a lot, as the play-calling was disastrous and the defensive backs were never in the right place. It is good that the team ended with .500 at all.

The defense line of the team performed much better in comparison with the offense, which really couldn’t keep the ball. It hasn’t changed a lot since last year. In fact, the team would probably need to save up for a secondary coach who could help put DBs in the right spots.

Although the team did not perform very well last year, there is still a chance to do much better this season. Perhaps it is even Carolina’s turn to get a victory in the NFC South, taking into account that New Orleans, Atlanta, and Tampa Bay have won division titles in the last three years.
