The five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver signed a two-year, $12 million contract to become Manning’s prime target after spending six years as Tom Brady’s No. 1 option with the New England Patriots, upping Denver’s chances to play in the Super Bowl in 2014. Manning has proven to be a master at utilizing every option available, and with Welker coming on as arguably the top slot receiver in the NFL, Broncos fans should be excited to see Manning incorporate him into an already thrilling receiving core of Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas. Denver racked up a 13-3 record in 2012, and though the squad ultimately fell to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional playoffs, Welker will surely make things easier on everyone and could very well be the final piece they need to win it all this year.
When fans eager to purchase Broncos tickets imagined what the Broncos 2013 schedule would look like, it’s unlikely that even the most fanciful pictured the incredible slate of matchups that are on tap. The Broncos begin their NFL season with a rematch against the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens in front of what’s sure to be a sell-out crowd inside Mile High Stadium on Sept. 5. Then, Denver will play Eli Manning and the New York Giants (Sept. 15), and the Dallas Cowboys (Oct. 6), before Manning makes his long-awaited return to Lucas Oil Stadium to face Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts (Oct. 20). Denver’s BYE is in Week 9, followed by AFC rivalry games against the San Diego Chargers (Nov. 10) and Kansas City Chiefs (Nov. 17), before Welker graces the opposing team sideline in Foxborough, Mass., for a much-anticipated showdown with the New England Patriots on Nov. 24. The Broncos will round things out in grand fashion by taking on the Houston Texans (Dec. 22), and Oakland Raiders in the regular-season finale on Dec.29.
