Vikings Slated for Final Season at Metrodome Until 2016

There’s no tiptoeing around division rivals for the Minnesota Vikings this year—rather, they’ll be jumping headfirst into the competition. The squad will face two NFC North opponents for the first two games of the 2013 season, including the Detroit Lions (Sept. 8), and Chicago Bears (Sept. 15). After the home opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 22 at the Metrodome, the Vikings will travel overseas to “host” the Pittsburgh Steelers at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sept. 29.

Once the travel-heavy portion of the Vikings 2013 schedule winds down, the team will play a slew of games in front of the home crowd, giving fans ample opportunity to watch their team in the Metrodome for the final time, as it will be torn down and rebuilt at the conclusion of the year. The Vikings will settle in at TCF Bank Stadium, the home of University of Minnesota football, for the 2014-15 seasons until the new Metrodome is finished. Purchase Vikings tickets and witness top visiting opponents this season such as the Green Bay Packers (Oct. 27), Washington Redskins (Nov. 7), and Chicago Bears (Dec. 1). The last game to be held at the Metrodome during the regular season is the finale on Dec. 29 against the Detroit Lions.

Christian Ponder will be at the helm as quarterback for the third season under head coach Leslie Frazier, but he will be short his top receiver Percy Harvin, who was traded after tallying 677 yards and three touchdowns last year. Minnesota will definitely have an advantage over their opponents with veteran Adrian Peterson on the field—he’s the all-time rushing leader for the Vikings, and led the NFL in rushing (2,097) and yards per game (131.1) in 2012, not to mention his 12 touchdowns.

Vikings Storm into NFC Wildcard Playoffs Behind Peterson

Outside of Minnesota, the Vikings weren’t on anyone’s list to make the playoffs when the season began. In fact, with star running back Adrian Peterson attempting to come back from a devastating torn ACL injury, most people wondered whether the Vikings might claim the first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. But, as they say, there's a reason why they play the games. A.P. rushed back on the field like a man possessed and smashed any doubts about his health with a remarkable, record-setting season, and the Vikings (10-6) played themselves into an NFC Wildcard playoff game this weekend against the Green Bay Packers. Though it certainly took a full team effort to make the postseason, the job Peterson did this season cannot be understated. In the season's final game, Peterson ran for 199 yards in a win-or-go-home game and came up just nine yards shy of Eric Dickerson’s 1984 single season rushing mark of 2,105 yards. In the process, he lead his team to a 37-34 win, and became the seventh person in NFL history to pass 2,000 rushing yards in a season, finishing with 2,097.

Having met last weekend, there will certainly be plenty of familiarity and likely a hint of bad blood between these longstanding divisional rivals, so get your Minnesota Vikings playoff tickets now to witness what should be a fabulous gridiron chess match. Green Bay (11-5) will certainly benefit from WR Randall Cobb and safety Charles Woodson returning from injuries, but Minnesota will still have a hungry Peterson primed to blast through the frigid conditions of Lambeau Field in hopes of making 2013 Super Bowl tickets a must-have for Vikings fans. As Game No. 1 of NFC Wildcard weekend, kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 5th.
