The Saints are back in 2004 and are looking for some divine intervention to
get them back into the playoffs. Last year a Sean Carney missed extra point
after an amazing 5 lateral play while time expired was heartbreaking, but the
Saints look to carry that chip on their shoulder into the preseason. Back in 04
is the core of a high-powered offense that ranked near the top in most offensive
categories. Ever emerging quarterback Aaron Brooks is looking to quell the
chatter of him choking in clutch situations. With Joe Horn and Dante Stallworth
as targets, Brooks should have plenty of options downfield. With Deuce
McCallister returning for his second year as the man at running back, the
Saints should be able to pound the ball between the tackles to lure the defense
in for a big play over the top.
The brightest spot on the Saints defense
is the secondary. Defensive backs Ashley Ambrose and Tebucky Jones look to bring
their playmaking abilities to a defense that was porous against the pass in
2003. Upgrades at Middle Linebacker (Orlando Ruff) and defensive tackle (Brian
Young) should fill the void that allowed teams to rush for 140 yards per game in
2003.
Superdome
- New Orleans, LA
The Superdome has been home to the
Saints since 1975. Host to six Super bowls since; it is no doubt that this
69,000-seat stadium can wow spectators and player alike. Players adore the new
Field Turf playing surface that should help reduce turf injuries without
compromising speed. Dual big screens and a 6,000-seat club level will give all
fans and ticket holders a splendid view of the action. Heaven helping, the
Saints should make a push for the playoffs in 2004, so opposing teams better say
their Hail Marys now.
