New York Islanders Midseason UpdateDuring the 2006-2007 offseason, the New York Islanders acquired a new look. The team announced the addition of Bryan Trottier as Executive Director of Player Development. A week later, they hired Neil Smith as General Manager and Ted Nolan as the team’s head coach. It was also stated that Pat LaFontaine would return to New York as Senior Advisor to the Owner. However, to the Islanders’ surprise, a month later, Wang fired Neil Smith and replaced him with backup goalie Garth Snow. According to Wang, he was fired because of a "difference in their philosophy." Later, LaFontaine resigned from his Senior Advisor position. Several reports stated that LaFontaine decided the fit was not right after Wang ignored his advice and wait a couple of days before making a final decision about Neil Smith.
