The St. Louis Blues are no strangers to the NHL Playoffs, as the franchise has played in 36 postseasons since joining the league 45 seasons ago. But despite an extensive history competing past the regular season, the Blues have yet to take home the coveted Stanley Cup. They’ll have another shot in the NHL Playoffs 2013 if they can round out the remainder of April and maintain within the first eight teams in the Western Conference. As of April 12, they’re sitting in an unsettled spot at the No. 6 seed, and with 10 games left, things could change quickly.
To maintain a tentative playoff spot, the Blues have to close out their remaining nine games with wins. They’ll have the home advantage for seven of those games, but they’ll also be playing some of the top teams in the conference. They’ll face the top-ranked Chicago Blackhawks twice (April 14 and 27) and the third-place Canucks (April 16) before taking on the Phoenix Coyotes (April 18) and Dallas Stars (April 19), both of whom can catch up in the standings with a few more wins.
Scoring hasn’t necessarily been a strong point for any individual on the Blues, but the forwards have made a point of sharing the brunt of the scoring responsibilities. Chris Stewart is leading the team with 16 goals, but he’s trailed closely by center Patrik Berglund with 15 goals. The more impressive stat line for the Blues has been their assists—there are eight players that have over 10 assists, and Alexander Steen, David Backes and Kevin Shattenkirk all top that list with 18.
