Canucks Hockey Update - Feb 07

In November 2006, Aquilini, along with his two brothers, purchased the remaining 50 per cent of the Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Place from McCaw. The Canucks officially abandoned their old red alternate jerseys and replaced them with the once popular retro stick and blue uniforms from the ‘70s. In April 2006, Vancouver fired Crawford. Alain Vigneault, who had coached Vancouver's AHL affiliate, was hired to replace him in June. Crawford was hired by the Los Angeles Kings.

Team rebuilding of the franchise continued, when Nonis completed a trade with the Florida Panthers, trading Bryan Allen, Bertuzzi, and Alex Auld for Roberto Luongo, Lukáš Krajíček, and Sergei Shirokov. Luongo inked a long-term four-year $27-million contract with the Canucks, which included a "no-trade Clause" after his first year, tying the Blackhawk Nikolai Khabibulin as the highest paid goaltender in the NHL.
