With only a handful of games left before the start of the NHL Playoffs 2013, the Vancouver Canucks will continue to battle it out to secure a playoff berth and home-ice advantage. The Canucks have all but locked in a spot in the postseason, but the likely No. 3 seed will have to fight to retain its spot against notable contenders like the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks.
The Canucks boast a host of excellent players, prime among them goalie Cory Schneider, who leads the league in shutouts with five this season. The team also finds strength in the synchronized plays orchestrated by identical twins Daniel and Henrik Sedin, with the former becoming the Canucks’ all-time leading scorer this past February.
The team won’t be able to rely on individual talent alone, though, with forward Chris Higgins and defenseman Christopher Tanev both on the injured list indefinitely. Neither player will join the Canucks during their string of five away games in mid-April, which includes a stop in St. Louis against the sixth-seeded Blues who only trail the Canucks by four points. The duo joins David Booth and Manny Malhotra who are both out for the rest of the season. Even with these absences, the Canucks appear well on their way to clinching the Northwest Division title this year, which could give this team enough momentum to propel it well into the late rounds of the postseason.
