Columbus also decided to increase the number of young players in the team by signing Anson Carter. First, it looked as if Nikolai Zherdev would be playing the following season in his native Russia. Nevertheless, Nikolai Zherdev and the Jackets’ General Manager Doug MacLean were able to comprise and in the end agreed upon a three-year $7.5-million dollar deal.
