The FBR Open is a golf tournament, which is held annually. It makes part of the PGA Tour (the Professional Golfers Association). The tournament is played in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the Tournament Players Club. It is usually held and televised around the last weekend of January.
The first game of the FBR Open was held in 1932, but in 1935 the tournament discontinued. The tradition was revived only four years later, in 1939, thanks to the efforts of the golfer Bob Goldwater. The tournament was played in Phoenix, Arizona, at Phoenix Country Club.
From 1995 the event was held at Arizona country club (located in Phoenix as well). Since 1975 Phoenix Country Club became the golf tournaments permanent home once again. Twelve years later the event was moved to another location, TPC of Scottsdale Stadium Course.
Originally, the overall payout equaled only 3 thousand US dollars, at the moment it equals 6 million dollars. The tournament winner receives 270 thousand of this sum (making thus the share of the winner eighteen per cent).
The FBR Open usually lasts four days. The average attendance is around 500 thousand golf fans. When the FBR Open first started it was named the Arizona Open, two years later it changed the name into the Phoenix Open (since 1934 till 1956). Only for one year, in 1950, it was renamed into the Ben Hogan Open. From 1957 it was known to the fans as the Phoenix Open Invitational. In 1972 it returned to the Phoenix Open name. Since 2004 the tournament received the present name, the FBR Open golf tournament.
