Since 1974, this annual PGA Tour event has assembled the best golfers in the world to compete for one of the game’s most coveted prizes: THE PLAYERS Championship trophy. The 2013 edition will take place from May 9-12 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., where it has been held every year since 1977. The tournament—like every one since 1982—will be played on the Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass, a beautiful, yet daunting 7,215-yard course that promises to challenge even the game’s most skilled players. THE PLAYERS Championship will undoubtedly draw the most talented professionals on the PGA Tour, as they will compete for the winner’s portion of the highest prize fund of any tournament in golf, totaling over $9.5 million. Besides the lucrative cash prize, the winner of the PLAYERS Championship 2013 will also receive a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour, a three-year invitation to The Masters, three-year exemptions for both The Open Championship and the U.S. Open, and an exemption to the PGA Championship.
Some of the biggest names in golf have enjoyed these spoils in the past, with the list of recent winners including superstars such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, and last year’s winner, Matt Kuchar. In addition to seeing the star-studded tournament field in action, spectators will have the chance to see a Dierks Bentley concert as part of the Military Appreciation Day ceremony, which will take place on the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse lawn on May 8, the day before the tournament begins.
