Men's Ice hockey is one of the most popular sports in USA. Many Universities have their own Ice Hockey programs. Boston University Terriers Ice Hockey team represents Boston University in this sport. Men's Ice Hockey team was founded in 1917. It took quite some time for Women's Ice Hockey team to be recognized. It was founded in 2005/06. BU used to play in Eastern College Athletic Conference, known as ECAC, until 1983. However, it started competing in Hockey East Association, which was created in 1983.
BU Terriers Men's Ice Hockey team has a very impressive history when it comes to gaining silverware. It has won four National Championships in 1971, 1972, 1978 and 1995. It, also, has 5 runner-up trophies since 1948. They have made 20 appearances out of 27 NCAA tournaments in final four (also known as frozen four). BU Terriers Men's has won 28 out of 55 Beanpots, a mid-season tournament held amongst local schools. They have 13 regular season conference titles and 11 post-season conference tournament championships.

Chris Drury is the all time highest goal scorer for BU, scoring 113 goals in his career. John Cullen scored the highest career points, 241 points, for a BU player during his time at BU (1983- 87). Jay Pandolfo shares the record of scoring most goals in Hockey East Tournament (1996). Boston College is the fiercest rival of BU Terriers Ice Hockey team. The rivalry between these two teams is also known as Green line rivalry. The present home of BU Terriers Men's Ice Hockey team is Aggaris Arena, which was opened in January 2005. Nickerson field is the home for Women's Ice Hockey team. Ice Hockey is a very popular sport in BU and many fans support it.
