Dallas Desperados: A Brief History
The Dallas Desperados began playing professional football in 2002 as an expansion team. They are a part of the Arena Football League (AFL) that was created in 1987. The team belongs to Jerry Jones and the head coach is Will McClay. At the teams inception in 2002 they also became members of the Eastern Division that is one of the four divisions under the Arena Football League. Dallas Desperados play their home games at the American Airlines Center, which was open for business in 2002. The American Airlines Center is located in downtown Dallas and is also the home playing turf for NBA's Dallas Mavericks and NHL's Dallas Stars.
The Dallas Desperados were initially to be named the Dallas Texans but that was changed when a new NFL team took the name Houston Texans. Jones thus decided to use another name and Dallas Desperados was picked. The name was picked by an online vote by the fans of Dallas Cowboys. When they team was just formed they had some legal tussle with Dallas Sidekicks who played indoor soccer over logo infringement issues. The Sidekicks were accusing the desperados of stealing their logo. It was eventually settled out of court and the Desperados dropped and changed the logo.
The Dallas Desperados had a great football season in 2007. The got the record for most wins in a season when they beat the New York Dragons, which gave them a record of fourteen wins out of fifteen games. The Dallas Desperados have won three divisional titles in 2003, 2006 and the subsequent 2007 season.
