Red Wings Season Update - Febuary 2007The Detroit Red Wings started the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs against Edmonton with a 3-2 overtime win. After the loss in Game 5 they needed only one victory. However, they were defeated again in Game 6, and thus, the Red Wings were eliminated from the playoffs. After the losing playoffs, the Detroit Red Wings management informed Manny Legace, the Wings’ goaltender that he would not play for the team during the following season. Chris Osgood and Nicklas Lidström signed 2-year contracts with the Red Wings. But that was only the beginning. The team’s management continued to shake up the Red Wings’ rooster by signing Brendan Shanahan to a free agent deal with the Rangers, who had spent the previous nine seasons with the club. In fact, he turned down offers from the Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens to sign with the New York Rangers.
