With a pristine, 43-0 record, Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. currently ranks as the top pound-for-pound boxer in the world, and the champ is set to put it all on the line this spring. “Pretty Boy” Floyd will defend his WBC welterweight world title against fellow American and interim titlist, Robert Guerrero, at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 4. The fight, which is titled as, “Mayday: Mayweather vs. Guerrero,” will be a great test for the 36-year-old Mayweather (43-0, 26 KOs), who will have the chance to unify the welterweight belt. This will be his first fight since being released from prison on Aug. 3, and Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs), a 29-year-old southpaw, has lost only once, so he should prove to be a worthy adversary.
While many fans are still rooting for a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao bout, the Mayweather vs. Guerrero fight is mandatory, as Mayweather is required to accept the challenge because the belt must be unified once the original title-holder is able to compete. “The Ghost” Guerrero won the interim title on July 28 by defeating Turkey’s Selcuk Aydin in a unanimous decision, and then the southpaw immediately called out Mayweather, who was still serving an 87-day prison sentence. Floyd Mayweather tickets are on sale now, and fans that come out will see the champ and plenty of other great fights on the card, including a Featherweight title match between the champion, Daniel Ponce De Leon (44-4, 35 KOs), and Abner Mares (25-0-1, 13 KOs).
