Kentucky Derby 2016 to Take Over Churchill Downs on May 7
The 2016 Kentucky Derby is sure to be abuzz with excitement this year coming off the sport’s first Triple Crown winner since 1978. Historic Churchill Downs in Louisville will once again serve as host on May 7 for the 142nd running of “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.” Last year, American Pharoah prevailed en route to becoming just the 12th ever winner of the elusive Triple Crown. Incidentally, the last time there was a back-to-back winner was 1977-78, which also was the most recent era of Triple Crown winners.
Well ahead of the beloved springtime race, early Kentucky Derby 2016 favorites include Nyquist, Mohaymen, Swipe, Brody’s Cause, and Songbird. In addition to the Kentucky Derby, other area weekend events of note at Churchill Downs include the Kentucky Oaks on May 6 and Barnstable Brown Gala later in the evening.
