About the Longhorn Championship Rodeo
The Longhorn Championship Rodeo of today can literally trace its roots back to 1964 and a young man by the name of Jack Lynn. Jack Lynn had a strong desire to want to ride bucking horses. Therefore, his parents built a riding arena on their small farm, which was located outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Young Jack's parents were famous country singer Loretta Lynn and her husband O.V. "Mooney" Lynn.
Soon the activities within the little arena began to draw the attention of neighbors, visitors and other people who also had horses that they could not tame. The weekends saw crowds who were gathered to see all the horse action firsthand and see for themselves how the bucking wild horses were tamed. Jack's father Mooney was also an excellent cowboy and he played his part as a cowboy and helping to promote his wife's musical career. He helped to form what became known as the Loretta Lynn Rodeo Company. This company eventually would become the Longhorn Championship Rodeo, the Mecca for champion livestock horse production that was unique ten.
The Lynn's would go on to sell the company to Bruce Lehrke in the 1970s. Lehrke did mold the present day Longhorn Championship Rodeo into what it is today. He ran it for forty straight years and made it the front-runner in both entertainment and sports business for all to witness. The Longhorn Championship placed an emphasis on breeding and training champion quality horse livestock and rodeos were held indoors and not outdoors.
