About Rodeo

 Rodeo is a traditional sport, which originates from Mexico. Gradually, it was adopted in other areas of North America as well. “Rodeo” is a Spanish word and literally means “I surround.” Rodeo includes bull riding, bareback bronc riding, and saddle bronc riding. The events are judged and each competitor is given his score. The timed events include steer wrestling, team roping, steer roping, tie-down roping, as well as women's barrel racing, ribbon roping, goat tying, breakaway roping, and pole bending. The competitors are called cowboys and cowgirls. Every year, beginning the weekend before July 4 and continuing throughout the following weekend, is known as “Cowboy Christmas” by rodeo competitors across the United States. During this rodeo week, cowboys and cowgirls can win over $100 thousand by competing in the events at the numerous rodeos. This week is the largest period of rodeo in the US. There are many professional rodeos that are held throughout the US and Canada. The most prominent include the Calgary Stampede; Cheyenne Frontier Days; The Days of 76; the National Western Stock Show; the NILE Rodeo; Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; and the National Finals Rodeo (NFR).
