About the Radio City Christmas Spectacular

During the Christmas Season, over one million New Yorkers and tourists gather at the Radio City Music Hall to take in the extravaganza that is the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. The show includes songs and scenes from the Nutcracker, Santa’s Sleigh Ride, A Christmas Carol and all other things Christmas. And of course the show wouldn’t be complete without the Rockettes in their lavish costumes.

The show originally began in 1933 as filler between movie screenings with the only acts being The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers and the living Nativity. It wasn’t until 1979 that the show was expanded to ninety minutes of many more acts using over 140 performers and special effects. In 1994, the show started touring all over the United States with the first stop being the Rockettes hometown of Brandon, Missouri (as the Rockettes were originally the Missouri Rockettes). The Radio City Christmas Spectacular continues to tour and bring the jolly spirit to cities today.
