Artie Lange Background InformationThe life and stories Artie Lange has accumulated over the years are countless and were his tickets into comedy. Hailing from New Jersey, Lange lived a rough life. Coping with a newly quadriplegic father and the financial stress it ensued caused Artie to act out. He was arrested for attempted bank robbery that he claims was a joke in that he was trying to impress a girl. He attended the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in 1987. Afterwards, he stayed in New Jersey and worked as a longshoreman doing stand-up until he got a role on the sketch comedy show, MAD TV in 1995. Lange was mainly used on the show for impersonations. Due to incidents involving his cocaine habit, he was fired from the show after two seasons. He moved on to the Howard Stern Show (meeting Howard after appearing as a guest to promote his movie, Dirty Work, in 1998) where he replaced Jackie Martling in 2001. After numerous ups and down with an on-going heroin addiction, Lange left the show on after getting into fights with other co-workers or to attend rehab. He, however, still remains on the Howard Stern Show and also does stand-up comedy tours. He recently checked himself into rehab in August but plans to continue with his current tour from August 29, 2008 and on. |
