Being born as William Maher, Jr., on January 20, 1956, Bill is known as an American stand up comedian, a writer his own and others scripts, he is an accomplished actor and a highly acclaimed producer. His credits have aptly included his roll as permanent host of the ABC and Comedy Central’s late night TV talk show, entitled “Politically Incorrect”. His current hosting assignment is through the HBO comedy show called “Real Time”. In the year 2006, Bill began hosting an internet talk show sponsored by internet giant, Amazon.com entitled “Amazon Fishbowl”.
Maher is notorious for his political satire as well as his sociopolitical structured interpretations. His political commentaries tend to target a diverse selection of popular topics that range from the right-wing topics all the way to the left wing resolves, religious parody, an assortment of bureaucracies of countless kinds, current political correctness, mass media News clips, Hollywood gossip, as well as relevant comments based upon persons within high social and political power positions. He is an avid supporter of the campaign to legalize cannabis and is a full pro gay marriage advocate. He actively serves on the board of PETA. He is currently evaluate as number 38 on the 100 greatest stand-up rating established by Comedy Central.
Mahr was born in the city of New York; however, he was eventually raised in River Vale New Jersey successfully graduating from Pascack Hills High school in nearby Montvale. His mother was a registered nurse and his father William Maher, Sr. served as a radio announcer and network news editor for a local radio station. His religious upbringing was similar to that of his father, a typical Irish American Catholic. He did not discover that his mother’s religion was Jewish until well into his teen years He majored in English receiving his Cornell University Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978.
Today he still maintains his substantial profession as a celebrated stand-up comedian while occasionally completing a tour or two. In the year 1979 Bill was the host of the popular New York City’s “Catch a Rising Star” comedy club. In 1982, with thanks in part to Steve Allen, Maher began making appearances on both David Letterman and Johnny Carson’s late night shows. In a comedy role he has appeared in several films. He broke intot he film industry with his feature film “D.C. Cab” which he made in 1983. He has also appeared in movies such as “Ratboy”, “Pizza Man” and “Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death”.
