Hailing from the England punk and new wave scene, Billy Idol started in the group Siouxsie & The Banshees in 1976, but the following year moved on to the group Chelsea to play guitar, then finally quit and formed Generation X as the lead singer. After three albums with Generation X, Idol went solo and soon received a lot of airplay in the U.S. on MTV in 1983. He became known for the singles “White Wedding” and “Dancing With Myself”. Idol’s 1983 album Rebel Yell ensured his superstardom. more
He continued to remain successful until 1993’s Cyberpunk album, which had little success and soon spiraled Idol down into a drug addiction. Of all people, Adam Sandler helped bring Billy Idol back into the public with his movie The Wedding Singer, which features a cameo by Idol and “White Wedding” as the film’s main song.
