American rock band Cheap Trick gained popularity in the late ‘70s. The current band members include Rick Nielsen (on lead guitar, vocals; the band’s main songwriter), Robin Zander (on vocals and rhythm guitar), Bun E. Carlos (on drums and percussion), and Tom Petersson (on bass guitar and vocals). Though the band have had only some brief flirtations with mainstream success, they have held a substantial following through their touring program and pop sound that combines the tunefulness of the legendary Beatles with the energy and speed of punk rock.
Cheap Trick’s biggest hits over the recent years include “Don't Be Cruel”, “Dream Police”, “Surrender”, “I Want You to Want Me”, and “The Flame”. The band’s most recent release, entitled Rockford, has gained critical acclaim.
The band has been running their own label, titled Cheap Trick Unlimited, for 10 years now. They control a substantial inventory of master recordings, including Music for Hangovers (live CD/DVD), Silver (a double live CD/DVD), Woke Up with a Monster (Warner Bros. 1994), Cheap Trick 97 (Red Ant), various singles with the theme from Fox's That 70's Show, plus various live footage and videos.
In June 2006, the band released the album titled Rockford on Cheap Trick Unlimited/Big3 Records. The first single from their record was “Perfect Stranger”. It was produced by Linda Perry and co-written by Perry and Cheap Trick. The musicians promoted their new release through a North American tour and appearances on the Sirius and XM satellite radio networks.
