Born in Portland, Oregon, Christopher Botti is a well-known trumpeter and composer. He plays a Martin Committee trumpet and uses a three silver-plated mouthpiece. As of 2006, Chris Botti has released eight albums. They include First Wish (1995), Midnight Without You (1997), Slowing Down the World (1999), Night Sessions (2001), The Very Best of Chris Botti (2002), December (2002), A Thousand Kisses Deep (2003), When I Fall In Love (2004), and To Love Again (2005). Each album has something different to tell to the listener. His first few records can be classified as smooth jazz, however, some critics argue that his music was a cut above much of this genre. His compositions feature heavy contributions from pop music artists, however, in the musician’s more recent albums he attempted to explore more traditional jazz territory, with beautiful orchestral arrangements.
Chris Botti has also performed and recorded a bunch of wonderful compositions with world-famous artists, including Sting, Andrea Bocelli, Frank Sinatra, Chaka Khan, Michael Bublé, Jill Scott, Steven Tyler, Paul Simon, The Blue Nile, Clark Terry, Paula Cole, Josh Groban, Dave Koz, Jeff Lorber, David Torn, Roy Hargrove, Renee Olstead, Lee Ritenour, and Brian Culbertson. He was a member of Bruford Levin Upper Extremities, which is a more experimental and jazz fusion-oriented band.
The musician is also a radio host. His show, which is called Chill with Chris Botti, focuses on "chill" music. This kind of music can be described as "smooth jazz with a touch of cool jazz."
