Bluegrass singer, songwriter, and session vocalist Claire Lynch joined her first music group then-called Hickory Wind, at the beginning of the ‘70s. After the band changed its name to the Front Porch String Band, the musicians began to work regularly throughout the Southeast over the next several years. They became true fan favorites on the strength of its open-minded musical approach and charismatic lead singer.
Front Porch String Band roared back onto the music scene with their great 1991 record entitled Lines and Traces. The huge success of the record and of the band led to Lynch’s 2nd solo album, called Friends for a Lifetime two years later.
The third album is the Grammy-nominated Moonlighter that was followed by 1997's Silver and Gold, which was also nominated for a Grammy.
The Front Porch String Band very soon evolved into one of the most exciting post-modern bluegrass groups on the circuit. The band’s last recording effort was on Claire’s 2000 solo record on Rounder, titled Love Light. It is a wonderful collection of original Claire Lynch songs.
In addition to her two Grammy nominations, Claire extended stays in the top reaches of the Gavin Americana and Bluegrass Unlimited charts. In 1997, the performer received an IBMA award for "Female Vocalist of the Year".
Starting from 2005, the singer has been touring and recording with former Front Porch String Band bandmates Missy Raines, Jim Hurst, and Dave Harvey under the name "The Claire Lynch Band". Claire’s Rounder release "New Day," in 2006, was named no. Two in Bluegrass Now magazine's Top 10 Albums of the Year chart.
In spring 2007, fiddler and mandolinist Jason Thomas joined the band replacing Dave Harvey. In May, 2007, the group undertook its first-ever European tour. The are the first-ever bluegrass band to play a concert in a German Opera House, the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater in Oldenburg, Germany. In August 2007, the performer was nominated IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year. The ceremony will be held in October.
