Collective Soul found their name when lead singer Ed Roland was in the midst of reading Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead and stumbled upon the phrase. Even though Rand was using the phrase to juxtapose the main character’s individualism against collectivism, Roland states that they still “dug the name” anyway. Collective Soul gained more attention with their hits in the nineties on college rock stations, particularly with their single “Shine” off their first album Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid. They were signed to Atlantic Records in 1993 and released seven studio albums and three compilation albums that earned them seven number one songs on U.S. mainstream rock charts. The last four albums were released through Collective Soul’s own record label El Music Group, which they started in 2001 after their contract with Atlantic was over. The band still tours to sold out theaters and stages in the United States and around the world. Cheap Collective Soul tickets are hard to get a hold of so don’t forget to buy yours soon!
