About Common
Common grew up in Chicago working for the Chicago Bulls in his teens and rapping on the side. His first rap group C.D.R. opened for notable acts N.W.A. and Big Daddy Kane. When he graduated high school he went down to Florida A&M University to major in business administration. The Source magazine featured Common in the “Unsigned Hype” column and it was then that Common dropped out to pursue a musical career. In 1992 he released the album, Can I Borrow A Dollar?, which gathered him a significant underground following. Common released more albums through the 90’s, growing bigger and bigger across the nation. When Like Water For Chocolate was released in 2000 on the major label MCA, he achieved his first gold record and Grammy nomination. Common has released a total of eight albums with his upcoming album, Universal Mind Control, to be released in November 2008. Common’s style of rapping is anti-gangsta.
