Counting Crows are a popular Academy Award nominated alternative rock band. The musicians became highly popular in early ‘90s after the release of their debut album August and Everything After. The record featured the hit song “Mr. Jones”. The band’s major influences include Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, R.E.M., and The Band.
In July 2002, the group released their 4th studio record, entitled Hard Candy. It included a cover of Joni Mitchell’s song “Big Yellow Taxi”.
In late 2003, the band released the greatest hits record, Films About Ghosts. Its title was taken from the lyrics of “Mrs. Potter's Lullaby” that appeared on This Desert Life. Counting Crows toured through 2003 together with Maroon 5, John Mayer, and the Graham Colton Band.
In 2004, the group’s “Accidentally in Love” appeared on the soundtrack of the world popular computer-animated film Shrek 2. This song was nominated for an Academy Award. In summer 2006, Counting Crows released a live album, entitled New Amsterdam: Live at Heineken Music Hall. It is assembled from performances on the 2003 tour of the band in support of Hard Candy.
Counting Crows have covered numerous famous artists, including Grateful Dead, U2, Pure Prairie League, Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, and Oasis. The musicians have also become known for their acoustic performances, recorded on the VH1 Storytellers disc from “Across a Wire: Live in New York City”. Current lineup of Counting Crows include Adam Duritz (Vocals, Piano), Dan Vickrey (Guitar), David Immerglück (Guitar, Mandolin, Pedal Steel), David Bryson (Guitar), Charlie Gillingham (Keyboards, Accordion), Jim Bogios (Drums), and Millard Powers (Bass Guitar, Piano, not officially in the band).
