Cream is considered to be the band that changed the British rock music face. It was the mixture of blues and rock pioneered by Alexis Korner and John Mayall that the band took to places it had never been before. Actually, the level of their improvisation was always worthy of free jazz. The music of Cream is usually treated as the one having three layers: a rhythm'n'blues beat, long solos heartened by free jazz, and a pop melody. It was always typical of the band to use guitar distortions and dissonant solos, so one raised on the Beatles could easily find them shocking. The songs Sunshine Of Your Love (1967) and White Room (1968) seemed like pointing towards a kind of "pop" that was more sophisticated than the songs of some other musicians of that time. Cream is always called a supergroup from Britain that featured guitarist Eric Clapton, bassist Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker playing drums. Cream managed to become one of the greatest power trios of rock music. Some charcterized their sound as a fusion of psychedelia and blues. That was the band in which blues guitar playing of Eric Clapton was combined with the airy voice and incredible bass playing of Jack Bruce and the jazz-influenced drum-playing of Ginger Baker. Cream created the music with the basis on traditional blues: such songs as Crossroads", "Spoonful, Born Under a Bad Sign" and the eccentric sound, as well. "Strange Brew", "Tales of Brave Ulysses", "Toad","I Feel Free", "Sunshine of Your Love", "White Room", "Crossroads", and "Badge" can be called the most vivid examples of the latter. Theres an opinion that Cream and The Who had a great influence on the popular music. Both bands provided a heavy and technically profecient musical theme. And it was their impact that foreshadowed the emergence of such groups as Rush and Led Zeppelin. They also made their contibution to the forthcoming of various forms of hard rock and heavy metal.
