David Byrne formed the Talking Heads in 1874 with fellow dropouts from the Rhode Island School of Design, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth and Jerry Harrison. The Talking Heads were best known for their funky new wave sound combined with innovative performances and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. David Byrne has been involved in a variety of other projects including writing Broadway scores and movie soundtracks. He directed and starred in his 1986 movie, True Stories, a musical collage of off beat suburban America.
He also directed other documentaries, concert films and the choreography for 1984’s Stop Making Sense. He has collaborated with other musical acts and artists such as 10,000 Maniacs, Selena, Dizzee Rascal, Fatboy Slim, Thievery Corporation, and Brian Eno. He founded Luaka Bop, a world music record label with such acts as Os Mutantes, Jim White, and Los Amigos Invisibles. He has his own internet radio station, Radio David Byrne. To top off David Byrne’s list of occupations, he is also a visual artist and is represented by Pace/MacGill Gallery in New York City. He released his latest solo album,
Grown Backwards, in 2004 consisting of string arrangements and operatic arias. He is also working with Brian Eno on new music and hopping on tour near the end of 2008.
