About the Del McCoury Band

Since February 1, 1939, Del Mccoury has been on this earth living and breathing music starting from his birthplace of Bakersville, North Carolina and moving on to York County, Pennslyvania, north of the Mason-Dixon line. Del got his first taste of music after listening to Flatt and Scruggs. After a short while in the military Del was released on medical leave and started playing around the now booming Baltimore bluegrass scene. He became a Blue Grass Boy in 1963, playing guitar for the band. Del went back to Pennsylvania where he again dawdled around the bluegrass scene eventually forming his own band Del and the Dixie Pals in 1967.  more
