Fall Out Boy is an alternative rock-pop-punk-emo band from Illinois, USA. It was formed in 2001 and currently consists of Patrick Stump (lead vocals and guitar), Peter Wentz (on bass guitar and backup vocalist), Joe Trohman (on lead guitar), and Andy Hurley (on drums).
In 2002, Fall Out Boy released a Split EP (EP stands for Extended Play) together with Project Rocket on Uprising Records. The following year the group’s debut album was released, called Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend. After the release, drummer Andy Hurley joined the group. In 2003, Fall Out Boy wrote their second full-length album, named Take This to Your Grave, on Fueled by Ramen, which included the singles "Grand Theft Autumn/Where is Your Boy" and "Saturday". The album became Gold, however, only after the success of their following album. The same year, the group signed a contract with Island Records. Together they released the acoustic EP My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue in 2004.
In 2005, the overdosed on the sedative Ativan Peter Wentz shocked the public by a suicide attempt. Later, he told Rolling Stone that he had a fascination with the suicides committed by Elliott Smith and Ian Curtis. Fortunately, everything turned out all right and the band released the song "I've Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song)", which is based on Peter's attempted suicide.
The same year, the band released their third album, named From Under the Cork Tree, which hit the Billboard 200 at #9, selling over 70 thousand copies during the first week, and shortly thereafter becoming Double Platinum. Their first single, "Sugar We're Goin' Down," settled at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100" and reached #1 on MTV's TRL live show. The video to the song received the MTV2 Award at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. Fall Out Boy were nominated for "Best New Artist" Award at the 2006 Grammy Awards.
Fall Out Boy have a rich history in touring with many famous singers and bands, like The Academy Is..., Taking Back Sunday, October Fall, Less Than Jake, The All-American Rejects, blink-182, Panic! At the Disco, Hawthorne Heights, Midtown, The Hush Sound, From First to Last, and more. The group was featured on the soundtrack for the Tony Hawk's American Wasteland video game.
It was announced that Fall Out Boy's next album will be titled Infinity on High, and will be released on February 6, 2007. The first single has already debuted at the 2006 American Music Awards (it is named This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race). The video was first showed on MTV on December 19, 2006.
