Matisyahu derives his name from the Ashkenazi Hebrew and Yiddish pronunciation, which means “Matthew”. Matisyahu is a Hasidic Jew who has fused together roots, rock, reggae and hip-hop along with his traditional Jewish values into a series of hit songs and albums selling with fervor nationwide. An avid follower of Phish and a self-proclaimed Deadhead, Matisyahu launched his career at 2005’s Bonnaroo Music Festival when he was invited to play with Phish lead singer Trey Anastasio on stage.
