Singer and songwriter Neko Case is best known for her solo career. Her work is typically labeled as alternative country; however, Case herself does not describe it in that way. The musician recorded and toured for several years as Neko Case & Her Boyfriends before she switched to her own name. Case has performed and recorded cover versions of songs by various singers, including Tom Waits, Loretta Lynn, Bob Dylan, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Hank Williams, and even Queen.
In early 2000, Neko Case released her second album (after Furnace Room Lullaby in 2000) together with Her Boyfriends, entitled Furnace Room Lullaby. The title track was included on the soundtrack to the movie The Gift by Sam Raimi, and "Porchlight" was featured on the soundtrack to the film The Slaughter Rule.
Neko is sometimes touring with her friend Carolyn Mark, Canadian singer and songwriter, under the name The Corn Sisters.
The musician released her third full-length album on August 20, 2002 (entitled Blacklisted). Some believe that the title alludes to Neko being banned for life from the Grand Ole Opry because in August 2001 during a performance, the singer took her shirt off (however, she denies the fact). In April 2004, the musician played 2 shows with longtime collaborators The Sadies. The performance was recorded for release as a live album, The Tigers Have Spoken.
The singer’s most recent album was released in 2006 and is entitled Fox Confessor Brings the Flood.
