Sigur Ros to Play Coachella 2013
Fans of the Icelandic post-rock trio Sigur Ros were treating with a bundle of new announcements this week, and while most of it is great, some of it will definitely leave some a bit disappointed. First, the bad news: as some may have noticed, the band is now a three piece. Members of Sigur Rós just confirmed that multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson, who served as the keyboardist for 15 years, decided to leave the band. He quit touring last year, but now the band member known for his beautiful string arrangements is officially out. But on the good side, Sigur Ros is officially working on the follow up to 2012’s “Valtari,” and it’s expected to release later this year. Also, in an addition to the band's currently North American tour, they announced that they’ve landed a coveted spot at the 2013 Coachella Music Festival.
This will be Sigur Ros’ second time performing at Coachella. This year’s show will again be a two weekend event, from April 12th-14th and 19th-21st; and it will take place at the Empire Polo Grounds, in Indio, California. Sigur Ros is set to play on the Saturday, April 13th and 20th. The headliners for this momentous event are California’s own Red Hot Chili Peppers, the indie rockers Passion Pit, and two bands that are recently re-formed in the Stone Roses and Blur.
