Sound Tribe Sector 9 Background Information
STS9, or Sound Tribe Sector 9, is an instrumental dance music band. Its members are famous for their spectacular live performances. The band’s sound is a mixture of several genres based on instrumental rock and electronic music with the elements of jazz, funk, psychedelic, and hip-hop.
The band has released 4 albums and a live DVD. Being independent artists, they have succeeded by giving stunning live performances, conducting multiple concert tours, and appearing at different music festivals.

Sound Tribe Sector 9’s members are Jeffree Lerner (percussion/laptop/handsonic), David Phipps (keyboards/laptop), Hunter Brown (guitar/laptop/midi keyboard), David Murphy (bass/laptop/midi keyboard), and Zack Velmer (drums).
At the beginning of 2005, STS9 released Artifact, and in 2006, the group released their first DVD on their own label. The band has maintained their own independent digital download web site, where they released dozens of live soundboard recordings and their studio releases.
The STS9's name has also changed over time. Their first two albums were released under the name Sector 9. The following two releases came out under the band’s name Sound Tribe Sector 9 and Sound Tribe Sector Nine. And only since 2003, the band has been promoting themselves under the initials STS9.
